Presenting as a loss of volume, asymmetry or a change in lip shape over time. This area swells more than anywhere else on the face, and expectations about the first week are set before anything else. Every appointment, first or returning, begins with a full reassessment.

Lips

Presenting as flattening through the mid-face. Concerns here often involve the lower face as well. Assessment looks at the whole structure before it looks at one area.

Cheeks

Presenting as a loss of definition along the jawline or a change in the chin. Not every concern in this area is a volume concern. Some relate to jaw tension, and the consultation establishes which before anything else.

Lower Face

Presenting as hollowing at the temples, sometimes only noticeable in certain light. Significant vessels run through this area. Assessment is more involved, and suitability is established before treatment is discussed.

Temples

Presenting as hollowing or shadowing beneath the eyes. Shadowing here has a range of causes, and volume is only one of them. Prolonged swelling and discolouration are more likely than elsewhere. This consultation establishes what is going on before it establishes whether this is the right path.

Some people who book are not suitable, and being told so is a legitimate outcome of a consultation rather than a wasted appointment.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding, certain neuromuscular conditions, active infection in the area, and some medications are all reasons we will decline or defer. So is a history that suggests treatment is unlikely to address what is actually bothering you.

We also decline where expectations cannot reasonably be met. If what you are describing is not something this category of treatment can deliver, you will be told that rather than sold something adjacent to it.

When we say no

Cost

Prices for consultations in this category are not published. Australian advertising regulations restrict what clinics may publish about treatments involving prescription-only substances, and we comply with those rules.

The practical reason is the same. What is appropriate for you cannot be determined before you are assessed, so any figure published in advance would be a guess.

You will be given a full cost at your consultation, before anything proceeds, with no obligation to go ahead.

- Spread to adjacent muscles, which can cause drooping of an eyelid or brow
- Asymmetry, including an uneven smile or uneven brow position
- Difficulty forming particular expressions
- Infection at the treated site
- Allergic reaction
The point people most often miss: effects in this category are temporary, and so are the complications. If an unwanted effect occurs, it generally cannot be reversed. It has to wear off, and that can take several weeks to several months.
Recovery varies between people. You may need to change your plans, and it is worth knowing that before you book rather than after.
The first few hours: Stay upright. Avoid rubbing, massaging or applying pressure to the treated area, including facials and sleeping face down.
The first 24 hours: No exercise, no alcohol, no saunas, hot yoga or steam. Heat and elevated blood flow can affect both comfort and outcome.
Bruising: One to two weeks is normal and it cannot always be avoided. Some people bruise every time. Some never do.
Before an event: Allow a minimum of two weeks, and four if it matters. Do not book in the fortnight before a wedding, a shoot or anything you cannot reschedule.
If something is not settling: Contact the clinic. Do not wait for your next appointment and do not wait to see whether it resolves on its own.
Because Australian regulations for higher-risk cosmetic procedures prohibit them, and because they would not tell you anything useful. Another person's anatomy, skin and response are not a guide to yours.
What you will get instead is an assessment of your own face and a clear account of what is and is not achievable for you.
Testimonials about regulated health services are prohibited in Australia, for every registered practitioner and every clinic. Any clinic showing you them is not following the rules.
Tell us. Some things can be adjusted once the full effect has developed, which is why the two-week review exists. Some cannot, and have to be waited out until the effect wears off.

A review appointment is recommended around two weeks after treatment, once the full effect has developed. It takes fifteen minutes and lets your nurse assess the outcome properly and adjust the plan where needed.
