Dermaplaning

Your skin's next chapter

ABOUT

Two women having a conversation in a minimalist room, sitting on modern chairs across from each other, with a small marble table between them and a mirror on the wall behind.

Dermaplaning is physical exfoliation. A sterile blade removes the outermost layer of dead skin along with fine vellus hair, and the difference is there when you leave rather than in six weeks.

What dermaplaning is?

A sterile surgical blade is held at an angle against the skin and drawn across it in short, controlled passes. It lifts away the outermost layer of dead cells and the fine vellus hair that sits on the surface.

Because it is a physical exfoliation rather than a chemical or energy-based one, the effect is immediate. Skin feels smoother straight away, absorbs product better afterwards, and makeup sits differently on it.

It is a straightforward treatment, but it is still a blade on skin, and it is performed by a trained clinician who assesses your skin first.

OUR APPROACH

Every skin treatment at Hanné Aesthetics follows a thorough assessment of your skin's individual needs. There are no off-the-shelf protocols here.

CLINICAL STANDARDS

All treatments are performed by one of our Registered Nurses or Dermal Therapists using medical-grade technologies and clinically proven actives selected for your specific skin concerns.

DRIVEN BY RESULTS, NOT TRENDS

We invest in treatments with real clinical evidence behind them. If something won't genuinely benefit your skin, we won't recommend it.

Expectations

What it does

What it doesn’t do

  • Treat pigmentation or melasma

  • Improve scarring

  • Address fine lines or skin laxity

  • Change hair growth in any lasting way

  • Replace a skincare routine or an in-clinic treatment

  • Removes surface dead skin and fine vellus hair

  • Leaves skin feeling immediately smoother to the touch

  • Helps the products applied afterwards absorb properly

  • Gives makeup a smoother surface to sit on

  • Prepares the skin ahead of other in-clinic treatments

if your concern sits in the right-hand column, book a skin consultation instead.

We would rather point you to the right treatment than sell you the wrong one.

A common misconception

Vellus hair regrows as vellus hair. It does not come back thicker or darker.

This is the single thing that stops most people booking, so it is worth answering properly.

Dermaplaning removes fine vellus hair at the surface. It does not touch the follicle, and it does not change what the follicle produces. Hair regrows at its usual rate, in its usual texture, in its usual amount.

The myth persists because a hair that has been cut has a blunt tip rather than a tapered one. For a few days it can feel coarser under your fingertips even though nothing about it has actually changed. Once it grows past that point, the tapered tip returns.

Terminal hair, which is the darker, coarser hair found in some areas of the face, behaves differently and is assessed separately. Your clinician will tell you which you have.

suitability

Who it suits

Most skin types tolerate dermaplaning well. It suits people who want an immediate improvement in texture, who are preparing for an event, or who want their skincare to work harder without adding another active.

When we will ask you to wait

Inflammatory or pustular acne in the treatment area. A blade across active lesions risks spreading bacteria and irritating skin that is already inflamed.

Active breakouts

Anywhere on the face. We will reschedule you.

Active cold sore

Skin needs to be intact and settled before it is exfoliated.

Sunburn or recent sun exposure

Skin that is stinging, flaking or reactive needs repairing before it is exfoliated further.

A compromised barrier

Between flares it may be suitable. During one it is not.

Rosacea or eczema in flare

Peels, needling and laser all need a clear interval. Your clinician will advise the spacing.
